American Football

Okay, so I've made a good friend in Library School who is American and went to Notre Dame University. So, Saturday Note Dame played Michigan State University in a big football game so I agreed to go to a sports bar and watch it with her. Apparently only American guys between the ages of 20-40 attend this sports bar on football saturdays, as we were the ONLY 2 girls in the place. There were 2 bachelor parties there, which I like to categorize into 2 catagories:

1. Coors Light Guys - Guys who never graduated from Gr. 6, who think it's funny to throw ice at girls and who still think that passing notes to ask a girl out is normal. They also drank Coors Light by the bucketload (literally, buckets with bottles of Coors Light) combined with Irish Carbombs.

2. Stella Guys - Guys who still remembered how to use their "inside voices" even when getting drunk, who were very into the game without throwing things at the screen, who chose to talk to us instead of pass notes. They drank Stella, Guiness and local microbrewery beer.

This is all true. It was like an anthropological study. One of the Coors Light guys gave me a note that said, "do you think my friend in the blue collared shirt is cute? check one: Yes or Absolutely Not". And he told me not to read it until I walked away.

I'm serious.

Too bad Notre Dame lost. It was good game though and now I know a little about football and the guys who watch it. I told my friend that next we have to go there to watch a Canadiens game, preferably against the leafs. I'm sure it won't be much different, except maybe the notes will be in French.

As an aside, I played frisbee with my old team last night and it was great to run around. We won!

oh, it was just a polo shirt...that was their way of distinguishing him from the other knuckleheads.

do you think you would throw ice at the girls, and the tv screen, and then pass the girls a note? hmmm...maybe you would...ha! but honestly, these guys were dickheads...not just pretend rednecks...
