Happy Holidays!

I'm heading home to Ontario tomorrow. Taking the train to Kitchener where my friend Erin will pick me up and I'll spend the night with her and her huband Rick, her new baby boy, Matteo, her sister Sarah, and Sarah's boyfriend Sean. It will be a treat to see them all at once! We'll drive up to Owen Sound on Saturday together. Fred will be driving up to Owen Sound (alone) on the 27th to stay for a few days. Can't wait to be home! Hope there's a little bit of snow there.

Question for everyone: When you rented or if you rent your apartments, do you give your landlords a Christmas gift, card or token (read: money) at this time of the year? I work with a lot of immigrants who are new to Canada. In my dept, there are only 2 of 15 who are from here, so we often teach the others about Canadian customs. One girl asked me if it was appropriate and I said she could give a card with a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates, but it's not necessary, and certainly not to give money. Thoughts?

Happy holidays everyone!!

I've only ever given one landlord a Christmas gift. We got them a bottle of wine and a card. That was special, since we were living in their basement apartment and they were the nicest landlords I have ever had. They made us feel so welcome that we wanted to say thanks.

So I'd say, if you really like your landlord, something like that would be a nice idea. If your landlord is a dink...perhaps not. Or maybe a nice card might make them not be a dink? :)
