I have to write a paper on what characteristics make a good leader and examples of people who exude those characteristics. There is a strong emphasis in our class on good leaders v. good managers (i.e. the people who can motivate and excite and lead others v. the people who can ensure the tasks are completed on time and within budget).
Some of my old profs at UVic might fit. A old boss. A friend. But no one stands out as "the leader of all time" in my life.
Thoughts?

hmmmmm....
Wayne Gretzky...can't argue with the Great One leading his team to 4 Stanley Cups.
Um.
From what i've seen at work, I think it's someone who is competent with the task(s) in general, but able to admit his or her incompetencies and able to accept that they don't understand and don't need to understand as long as the rest of the team can pick up the slack.
They also need to have a sense of humour (perhaps that's surprising) and be able to isolate the team from external stresses.
