So lately there has been a lot in the news about the evironment. I pride myself on recycling, on using both sides of every sheet of paper, of re-using (and re-using and re-using) but some people take this to extreme levels.
A fellow greenie at work sent me the article "Zero is the new black" which appeared in the Globe & Mail last month. I'm simultaneously in awe and concerned -- obsession is never healthy. For those who missed it, it's about one guy & his family, who are in a year-long experiment to try to have zero impact on the environment, including not taking elevators, not buying anything that comes in plastic packaging and not using toilet paper. He makes his own vinegar.
My fav quote is this:
His family eats only food that's available within a 250-mile radius. No meat, of course. It's delicious, so long as you have a taste for cabbage and thyme tea.
Admirable? Ridiculous? Both?

'zero is the new black' ha! That's a brilliant. Yeah, I really can't believe the sudden upswing in environmental issues... of course, I have been acutely aware by our west coast gang but now it's on TV!! :)
Ever see the movie Pump up the volume with Christian Slater...
There's this punk guy who was one of the originals to listen to Slater's late night radio show, and, one night, while looking over a whole crowd who have assembled to listen to the radio show, he says this classic line: "F@cking yuppies" very nonchallantly. I feel the same way.
An investment banker? Cuz bankers don't exploit people? Isn't charging rediculous amounts of user fees and interest rates on loans, but negligeable rates on savings not exploitation? Doesn't eat meat but invests in multi-nationals that exploit resources?
Well, I HAVE to admit that I couldn't read the whole article since its a pay-to-read article, but from the little blurb I smell inconsistancies, I'm hearing hypocrasy, I'm smelling foul...
