Could you buy this?

Fred & I looking at condos but we came across this house for a CRAZY low price of $80,000. It's not even in the burbs. (MLS #1281359 if the link doesn't work.) Look past the outside. We toyed with living there for a few years to save money and pay down our debt because our mortgage payments would be $400/month. School taxes are $1/year. Think of the savings! And then we could buy the mansion we really want. ;)

Could you do it?

Cute place...inside. :-) The kitchen looks great, and it has stairs! The bedroom looks like it would fit your new bed (gotta make sure you can keep it!). I'm confused by all the measurements they give: 700 livable sq feet, but with building dimensions totaling over 1000 sq feet. The outside looks like it needs a little love. And I wonder how thick the walls are between that unit and the neighbours. Ooh! I just noticed the little porch on the front. Neat! I'm jealous...I really enjoyed condo shopping. :-)

Oye. If that was even 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver that would half a mil. Do it. And then we don't want to hear about it.

surprisingly nice inside, huh?

find out exactly how much it's going to cost you in repairs, etc, before you jump at it (get an inspector in to check it over).
binner was looking at a place in toronto that they put an offer on and then found out that beneath the nice surface there was fire damage from ground floor to attic!

good luck

I think it's adorable. I especially like the front covered porch. My two concerns would be: heat and safety. It's in Montreal est right? Isn't that a bit of a 'hood'? It's ground level, so I would be inclined to ask about what the hood is like (breakins, demographic, etc). Second, it says only 1 water heater? Or do they mean radiant water heat? Montreal is fricken cold....

Maybe I should come out this summer and help you paint if you buy it! It's a steal

If you go look at it, I'd encourage you to ask why it's so cheap. In my experience, out here at least, if something looked cheaper than it should, there was usually something seriously wrong with it (extensive water damage, some kind of bug problem, toxic mold in the walls, etc). I'm with James: make sure you get an inspector in if you're at all serious about it. It is a really cute place, though. :-)
